I made this image while sitting on a bench in Berlin, waiting while my husband was buying tickets for a museum. i looked up and saw the man in the long coat walking up a staircase across the lobby. I had no time to think, compose or check my settings...I just raised the camera to my eye and clicked, just as he was in the perfect spot between the window and the pipe. The photograph was made by pure instinct and reaction...no conscious thought at all. To me there is a story here, although I don't know what it is...I just like the mood and the almost monochrome palette. I'm also very happy that in that instant I nailed the composition, and think that years of experience and making hundreds of thousands of photographs enabled me to do this.
