P1104

I am not a bird photographer, but when this flock of birds flew directly overhead while I was photographing reflections in a river, I quickly pointed the camera upwards and started shooting. There were power lines overhead, which I tried to eliminate by moving my position, but I realized in an instant that the swiftly moving birds would be out of range by time I moved even a few feet. I had time to only make two or three pictures before the birds were gone. I figured that the wires killed the image, and didn't think any more about it until I saw this on my computer. I loved the lines! I converted the picture to black and white and digitally made the sky pure white, and the wires and birds pure black, for a strong contrast in shape. The addition of a white border, making the image float in a surreal way was the final touch. I love the quirkiness of the photograph, and it's minimalistic quality. I also love the fact that it wasn't anything I expected to capture.
