theme 1 week 2: NEGATIVE SPACE

I was photographing architectural details on a cloudy day and was working with the facade of an adobe building with clay roof tiles. As I composed the image I noticed that there were 3 small bare patches of sky visible in the clouds, and these echoed the 3 round shapes on the building. I quickly recomposed to to include the sky, positioning the 3 bare patches in the top right corner of the frame, and mimicking the triangular shape of the roof in the opposite corner. The subject, the building, occupies a very small amount of space in the frame, while the negative space becomes a very important compositional element. To see Simone's image please click here.
