week 15

It is possible to digitally alter the aspect ratio, or basic shape and relative dimensions of a photograph. This can often yield interesting effects. I was experimenting with this technique on an image I had made of the crater of Haleakala, a dormant volcano on Maui. The original is the bottom left section of this montage. Next, I stretched it horizontally, giving it a more panoramic appearance (top left). Finally I compressed it and stretched it vertically, making it look very bizarre and other worldly (which I love!). I was happy with all three versions and decided to present them as a single unit.
