handle and shadow

handle and shadow - 2016
I was photographing in a car graveyard in Jerome Arizona on a day with a bright blue sky and not a cloud in sight...typical for Arizona. This is the worst possible light for photographing old vehicles...the harsh light creates a tremendous amount of contrast on the metal. I wandered around, trying to shoot on the shady sides of the vehicles...and then I noticed the dark shadow of the handle on the sunny side of this red truck. Then I noticed the tiny curve of reflected light from the silver metal of the handle. That the truck was bright red added to the appeal. All the elements to create a vibrant graphic were there. I love discovering things to photograph that I didn't expect to find.
