week 23

WEEK 23 : HOME, ONTARIO
While talking to a neighbour in front of my house, I noticed my car, which was in the driveway. For the most part, my interest in cars goes no further than getting where I want to go safely and reliably. However, I have made many photographs of vintage cars and old, abandoned vehicles. There is a lot of photographic potential in shooting these because of the wonderful surface textures and interesting shapes of the front grilles or parts of the bodywork. My car is sort of beige (not eye catching) and has no rust (thankfully), but it still has interesting elements and details to work with. The problem was that my car is dirty! Living in an area that still has a lot of construction makes it impossible to keep it clean. So, I decided to photograph part of the wheel and wheel well using a motion technique, moving the camera while I made the exposure. That made the dirt irrelevant since everything got blurred. One day, after a car wash, I will photograph it again.
